DOCUMENTARY PROJECT

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER

Duties: The Executive Producer has the final say on CONTENT.  That is, it is the responsibility of the Executive Producer to organize the information they plan to present, and to convey the information to the audience in a clear and understandable way to the viewer.  They need to make sure the overall project is developing in an organized way, and needs to correct problems if they arise among group members.  Leadership and problem solving skills are essential to this job, since he or she is primarily in charge of writing of the script.

    Interacting with other group members:

Director:  The Executive Producer has say on content, but must work with the Director who is in charge of the "LOOK" of the show (video, pictures, graphics etc.).  The Producer must make sure the words in the script work well with the visuals the Director has planned for the program.  Teamwork between these 2 people will make or break the entire project.
Researcher: The Producer must work with the Researcher to understand the content of the information that is being compiled and work with him or her to ensure that the information that is included in the final script is accurate and reliable.  Checking sources is an important component for these 2 people when they are collaborating.
Talent: Make sure the talent knows what you need from him or her.  The talent is the face and voice of the project and they need to be clear on the information they are presenting, and be prepared for interviewing the people needed to be included in the program.
