DOCUMENTARY PROJECT

What will you do?

You are going to tell me a story.  A real-life story.  You need to pretend that I do not know anything about the story you will tell.  You will not use just words...you must use pictures as well.  You will produce a TV show called a documentary.  You need to inform me so I learn something new, and to entertain me as well, or I will get bored and change the channel.  So get ready, and start thinking!!

How will you do it?

Don't panic!!! You are not in this alone.  You will work with a team of people because this is not easy to do alone, but if you work well as part of a team, it's not that bad, and can be a lot of fun too!  So get with a group of  4 classmates and get started.

GROUPS
When you are in your groups, you need to pick a job for each group member.  This is very important!  Everybody cannot do everything, so we need to specialize. Take a look at all the jobs there are for this project and decide who fits best into which role.  Communicate with each other, but don't argue...that just wastes time.  Here are the jobs: Click on them to see what they are all about!
PROCEDURE

The group will need to follow these steps to produce a quality documentary.  How will you know if its good? Look at the rubric to see what is expected from a good story.

  1. Gather the Information: Learn all you can about the topic and compile and organize the information. This includes facts, photos, personalities, opinions, and anything else you find that might be of use. If you need to interview anyone, make a list of people to talk to.
  2. Develop a Script: Decide which information to include, and the order it should go in.  Keep in mind that the pictures and words need to work together.
  3. Produce the Video: Follow the script and piece the final product together.  Use the camera and microphones to gather the elements you require.
  4. Reflect: Nobody is perfect, especially the first time you try something new.  Write down at least 3 things you would change if you had to do the project over again, and 3 things you really thought came out about like or better than you expected.
