The Writing Process Handbook supports the process of differentiating instruction by allowing teachers to organize their classrooms and instructional time to teach effective writing strategies and to help students put them into practice. The most important goal of this approach is the development of independent writers who are equipped with the skills and knowledge they will need for a lifetime of writing.
This handbook was developed in order to assist teachers in planning, organizing, and teaching the Massachusetts State Language Arts Frameworks while maintaining a commitment to the philosophies of Chicopee Public Schools. It is anticipated that instruction may need to be differentiated and adjusted by individual teachers to meet the needs of our diverse student population. Writing samples will be collected each term to continually assess student performance and determine if they are acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to attain mastery of the benchmarks.
It is our hope that this document will help teachers identify the standards which will support and enable students to reach the grade level benchmark expectations necessary for success.
