Composition Strand
Kindergarten
19. Students will write compositions with a
clear focus, developing the composition with
logically related ideas and adequate supporting detail.
20. Students will select and use appropriate genres, modes of reasoning, and speaking styles when writing for different audiences and rhetorical purposes.
21. Students will demonstrate improvement in organization, content, paragraph development, level of detail, style, tone and word choice (diction) in their compositions after revising them.
22. Students will use knowledge of standard English conventions to edit their writing.
23. Students will use self-generated questions, note-taking, summarizing, précis writing, and outlining to enhance learning when reading or writing.
24. Students will use open-ended research questions, different sources of information, and appropriate research methods to gather information for their research projects.
25.
Students will develop and use appropriate rhetorical, logical, and
stylistic criteria for assessing final versions of their compositions or
research projects before presenting them to varied audiences.

19.2 Dictate sentences for a story and collaborate to put the sentences in chronological sequence.

19.4 Dictate sentences for a letter or directions and collaborate to put the sentences in order.
20.1 Write or dictate stories and poems.
20.2 Use a variety of forms of genres when writing for different purposes.

make the thoughts clearer, more logical, or more expressive.
22.1 Print lower and upper case letters of the alphabet.

24.1 Generate questions and gather information from several sources in a classroom, school or a public library.
